| The music of Las Chicas del Tango is Finnish-Argentinean tango nuevo with an eclectic appetite - influences are adopted from a wide range of styles, from traditional dance floor music to modern concert tango. Compositions and lyrics are written partly by old Argentinean masters, partly by the trio members themselves. Thus, bursting emotion is expressed in Finnish as well as in Spanish, the traditional language of tango. All pieces are arranged by Juhola and Viljamaa. In 2002 Johanna Juhola and Milla Viljamaa won an international Astor Piazzolla contest as a duo (International "Citta di Castelfiardo" Award 2002, Astor Piazzolla Music Section). In the same year Kukka-Maaria Ahonen was crowned Tango Princess in Seinäjoki Tango Festival in Finland. |
